History Bursts to Life

Old Fort Harrod State Park
A full-scale replica of the fort, built by James Harrod in 1775, commemorates the first permanent settlement west of the Allegheny Mountains. Cabins are furnished craftspeople in authentic period dress demonstrate some of the daily tasks performed in pioneer days (weaving, basketry, woodworking, broom making and blacksmithing, etc.)

The park complex also features the Mansion Museum, a pioneer cemetery, the Lincoln Marriage Temple housing the cabin where Abraham Lincoln's parents were married, the George Rogers Clark Federal Monument and a gift shop. Visitors can attend the park's outdoor summer theatre.

Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill
A 3,000-acre landmark, presents new dynamic and interactive programming while preserving the heritage and presenting the story of the Kentucky Shakers. Home to the third largest Shaker community in the country between 1805 and 1910. Includes over 3,000 acres of discovery including the The Historic Centre (tours & overnights), The Trustees' Table Dining Room (garden fresh dining), and The Preserve (containing over 40 miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails). Authentic Americana
From 1868 to 1983, Dedman Drugstore (c. 1865) operated in this historic building in downtown, a community gathering place that dispensed tinctures, elixirs, cold drinks, toiletries, stationary and sundries. Today, the unique property, authentic down to its oldfashioned soda fountain, is home to the Kentucky Fudge Company.

Sweets and Treats
Sit a spell at the original soda fountain inside the Kentucky Fudge Company to indulge in delectable desserts and creamy homemade fudge or order a cone filled with delicious banana softserve ice cream from the Olde Bus Station.
