Long Live the Wild West

There’s hardly a place on earth where the landscape of the American West comes to life more than in Yellowstone National Park. And, there’s no better place to begin your journey through this amazing, natural treasure than here at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, located just a few magnificent miles from the East Gate.

And on the heels of the National Park Service’s 100th anniversary in 2016, the Center of the West celebrates its Centennial throughout 2017!

Discover...Yellowstone Nature and Science

In the Draper Natural History Museum, learn about the wildlife, geology, and forests of Yellowstone, a framework for your Park vacation you simply won’t find anywhere else. Check in with the Draper Museum Raptor Experience—10 live birds of prey, including Jade, the bald eagle—that educate visitors about wildlife conservation. And the Yellowstone connection doesn't stop there...

Discover...the West that Buffalo Bill Loved

The Center has been celebrating the West for more than 100 years! Your trip to Yellowstone is a great time to discover the “real” William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody in the Center’s Buffalo Bill Museum. There, Cody’s love for the Yellowstone area is unmistakable. Then, within the Cody Firearms Museum, the most significant collection of American firearms in the country, you’ll find many rare examples of firearms likely used by early visitors to the Park—hundreds older than we are!

Discover...Western Art and Culture

Examine the landscapes of Yellowstone portrayed in the masterworks of Thomas Moran, Albert Bierstadt, and numerous other artists who loved Yellowstone and interpreted its wonders–on display in the Center's Whitney Western Art Museum. And, in the Plains Indian Museum, listen to the stories, and see the art and artifacts of Native Americans who inhabited the area around Yellowstone where they lived, hunted, and explored.

Discover...YOUR True West!

With so much about Yellowstone woven into the stories, collections, programs, and fun of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West—and a mere 50 miles separating us from the Park’s East Gate—a visit here is the perfect way for Yellowstone travelers to discover their own True West!
